The traction gas strut or pull type works in the opposite way to the conventional compression gas strut. The piston rod in its relaxed position is inside the cylinder and when the piston rod is extended, the force of the gas strut tries to retract or pull the piston back into the cylinder. The traction gas strut is ideal for applications where the lid/flap falls downwards and needs to have a controlled descent with assistance in returning to the original position. For example, loft access hatches, access ramps, stairways and trailer doors etc.
